OK, here's what I think I've found out:

- Rank: based on post count outside Off Topic.

- Great Content badge: based on number of received TLRTs.

- BC Hero badge: based on number of replies given.

- Watts: number of received TLRTs of the types 'Haha', 'Like' and 'Thanks'.  'Confused' and 'Sad' not counted.

I may dislike them, but the phenomenon seems interesting in a psychiatric way. 😁

From what I've read it seems to be about people being fascinated with them and offering them an infrastructure they can thrive in as semi-pets, in connection to the person's house or farm.
A badger keeper in our municipality in Holland told about the enormous differences between individual badgers. That is the total extent of my knowledge.

Just as a trial, I checked out your list.

 

My profile said 473 points from the next level.  A post in off topic leaves it unchanged.  

 

A "Thanks" TLRT on your post gave me 3 points.  Whoopee.

Quoting your own post also gives 2 points.  Just to prove that either arguing with yourself, or agreeing with yourself is regarded as a good thing by the powers that be, and that talking you yourself isn't entirely pointless unless you don't like badges.

I still don't get why it is says "Badges! We don't need no stinking badges!" in the thread title. Why are they stinking and what are they stinking of? I cannot smell anything. I even sniffed the computer screen but just cannot smell anything. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Only the rusty sheriffs badge stinks.  I don't mind the badges one way or another.
