escholl
You could do exercises and stretches to strengthen your shoulder, core and back muscles as well. Solving the root problems (poor back and core strength) rather than just getting around it by buying lighter equipment. Just an option mind you. Good choice of avatar as well chap.
at first i thought he was you, then i thought you'd replied to your own post ^_^ this same avatar thing is confusing..... leschirons
Do you get the backache when playing at home? Could be lugging the rig into gigs before you play making you think it's the bass.

cheddatom
Swimming (along with many of the exercises mentioned) actually aggravates many of my problems so be careful.
Apparently swimming can be really good or really bad depending on your swimming technique. johnnylager
Pretty much all the SBs that I've played (quite a few, I was around when they first came out) have been extremely heavy.
Yup - I had an SB Elite I for 20-odd years. I had a couple of years off the bass a few years back and sold it when I took it up again as eventually the weight & lack of forearm contour did for me. I should have just put it on the wall though.
