As far as I know the only official Lee Sklar signature series are his Dingwall 5 string & his signature Warwick Starbass, but his Frankenstein is unique and as far as I know has only been done in replica via custom shop. Did find on Reverb this Carruthers custom one...

Am guessing one or two others have likewise tried to replicate it in custom also.

Taking a leaf out of Sklar's book though, have been thinking about getting one of my basses refretted with mandolin frets but what with the way the world is at the moment kind of been on a wishful backburner. Have been thinking about it for a while but wonder if anyone else has taken this step? What did they think?

I always feel that the move to bigger fretwire has been driven by the guitar market. I much prefer narrower, vintage frets and can only think that going thinner would be a good thing.

Valley Arts did a Sklar, Frankie alike, signature back in the day, as did Gibson.

Just great to hear such a seasoned player give an impromptu talk on his old bass……Ive used mandolin wire on my fretted basses for many years since hearing of him using it. Being mainly a fretless player myself I immediately took to the lower width and profile of mando wire and recently made a fretted with a reverse P pickup as well, due to the exact reason he gave about reversing them.99A4E071-CE12-489D-81C7-D8569646DD0D.thumb.jpeg.56b3386a2d99af9777c4ad63ae2b7fb9.jpeg

It's not an interview, just a short intro and then it's all Lee Sklar.

That's a great sounding bass. Anyone made a tribute of it?

I really enjoyed that! Thanks for sharing 😁
