ped Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 As some of you know Iām deeply into the P/flats sound at the moment not least because a lot of the new music Iām discovering features some tasty PĀ action.Ā Ā Latest discovery is below. Phenomenal bass playing; tasteful, groovy, busy, sparse, itās all there - and the rest of the band are fantastic.Ā Ā I normally avoid any albums/artists with āfunkā in the name as they tend to be anything but, but this is awesome. Go on, give it a spin š§ Ā Ā 3 Quote
binky_bass Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 (edited) Spotify did me a wrong.Ā Typed in Scumfu... and was given this... Ā Actually not terrible if you can handle the heavier things in life. Reminds of early Between The Buried And Me with harsher vocals. Ā Edited July 30, 2021 by binky_bass 1 Quote
ped Posted July 30, 2021 Author Posted July 30, 2021 Nice, I love Between The Buried and Me, will give it a listen! Quote
musicbassman Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Thanks for posting this Ped - a new listen for me, and gold plated A1 stuff. Singer's phrasing reminds me of iamddb. Ā Can't find the name of the bass player, but an absolute master of discreet glissando and ghost notes, and a great ad for the PJ sound, which I love. Here's another track: Ā 2 1 Quote

Here's another track: Ā Ā Exactly - I love those aspects of his playing. it inspired me to do this recording. For some reason I don't think there's anything quite as funky as a P bass gliss. I'm only recently getting used to them, as for some reason I find them much harder on round wound strings and have only been using flats for a few years in comparison Ā Ā 1 Quote

Mind you, seems some people refer to glissando when what they're actually doing is hammering on a semitone - slightly different effect IMHO. You do a little gliss right at the end of your recording - excellent by the way! - and I can't work out whether you're using a sliding gliss or hammering. Sounds good either way !Ā š PS Ernie Ball cobalts are my favourite flats š Quote

TheLowDown Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Just listening to it now and really quite like it. The track 'No other feeling' reminds slightly of Rainy Milo. Thanks for the recommendation. Ā 1 Quote

Here's a link to hisĀ FB pageĀ https://www.facebook.com/VBNDmusicĀ and a video of his band live in downtown Saskatoon.Ā Ā 1 Quote
bubinga5 Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I usually hate the P Bass sound. Way too rubbery for me. On this, I will make an exception. David Bailis on a P bass with flats.Ā Ā Quote
vbnd Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Hey yāall! vbnd here, just browsing the internet and found this thread, i am very honoured by all the kind words you guys said!Ā Ā ill let you in on a little secret though,Ā Ā i play a fender squire bass, i think itās an affinity series?? iām not sure. but my strings, theyāre rounds! iām not sure what brand, i bought the bass from a friend 6 years ago and iāve never changed them, not sure how long that friend had the bass either. you know what they say, the funk is in the gunk hahaha.Ā Ā anyways, thanks for checking out the band and our stuff! i look forward to maybe hearing back from some of yāall!Ā Ā cheers 1 2 Quote
Hellzero Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Very old dead nickel round wound strings can really sound like flat wound strings. Ā For glissandi, nickel is way smoother than stainless steel that are real cheese grates. 1 Quote

Ā Whatās your favourite track on SCUMFUCK š Ā Love your playing and laid back groove. As I say normally albums/bands with āFunkā in the name are anything but and tend to be fast up tempo āfunkā that I canāt bear..Ā Ā Iāll have a listen to some of your other stuff⦠which tracks are you most happy with? 1 Quote
