drTStingray Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 (edited) My TC Signature StingRay arrived this afternoon. I must say I’m really very pleased with it. It has passive electronics (series; parallel; single coil pick up settings. Boost on the volume control (or cut if you use it that way round), and passive tone control. It weighs around 8 lbs, has a nicely figured two piece swamp ash body, roasted maple neck with a very dark ebony board. All the hardware is black, including the hardened steel strings through bridge with mute system. The sound through my Mark Bass LM3 and 2 x 10 Traveller is great - I think I prefer the series with the tone control around centre. It has a perfect Musicman sound, looks, feels and plays excellently - the neck is, as always with roasted maple and the Musicman oil and wax finish, incredibly slick!! Some photos…… Edited August 6, 2021 by drTStingray Spelling 31 Quote

Guest Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 How did the delivery go? Interested to hear whether the EB’s pre-charging of duty and VAT speeds up customs clearance as it seems to have turned up very quickly Quote

uk_lefty Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 A very classy bass! Love it. These haven't been out long and there aren't many available if I remember rightly, you've done well to snap one up! 1 Quote

I also ordered one and paid everything (price for bass, shipping, and VAT) at the time of checkout. So, there should not be any more costs when it arrives on Monday. The Vault is really good and much, much cheaper than getting it from UK retailers (cutting out the markup for distributor and retailer). For example, for the EBMM Stingray Special 4HH BFR "Kingpin", Bass Direct wants £3699. Now look how much it costs you by ordering directly from EBMM (again, all charges included!): Cart Subtotal (1 item):£2139.28 GBP UPS Expedited:£111.02 GBP Duties and taxes:£530.66 GBP Order Total: £2780.96 GBP Savings: £918.04 Links: Shop Ernie Ball Music Man - Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay Special HH - Kingpin (music-man.com) Musicman Stingray Special 4® HH, BFR Kingpin Bass Direct - MUSICMAN, MUSIC MAN, - For sale, UK Basses specialist, USA, Birmingham, Manchester, London, Ernie Ball, Active bass 3 1 Quote

There are still 11 of the long-scale and active model available (the black one). By contrast, plenty of the short-scale models are still available (62 in total!). Not selling that well. Quote

However, looks like Sweetwater (and maybe some other retailers too) will also sell them. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StRay4TCN--ernie-ball-music-man-tim-commerford-stingray-special-passive-bass-guitar-natural-ebony-fingerboard https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StRay4TCB--ernie-ball-music-man-tim-commerford-stingray-special-active-bass-guitar-black-with-roasted-maple-fingerboard https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StRaySS4TCVS--ernie-ball-music-man-tim-commerford-short-scale-stingray-special-passive-bass-guitar-vintage-sunburst-rosewood-fingerboard https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StRaySS4TCB--ernie-ball-music-man-tim-commerford-short-scale-stingray-special-active-bass-guitar-natural-maple-fingerboard Quote

Yes that confused me a bit, releasing 4 different "signature" variants. I'm not aware of ever seeing him use a short scale but I'm not an avid TC fan, though I do appreciate his work. Not to detract anything from it though, they will be excellent, excellent basses. Quote

Yeah, I also found it strange to see a TC short-scale model. However, over at TB, Alex Claber, the Director of Barefaced Audio, said that TC used them in his previous band Wakrat and is playing them now in his new band 7D7D. He was also thinking of taking some on the (now delayed) RATM tour. Quote

Absolutely no problem - in fact I had notifications re shipping and then it was going to be delayed till Monday, but it still turned up yesterday!! When you order they give you a warning it may take up to four months but they charge you including the shipping and tax but guarantee the price. I guess it depends how much you want the type of instrument on offer. On this occasion I guess I got one of the already made batch of instruments!! 1 Quote
drTStingray Posted August 7, 2021 Author Posted August 7, 2021 I can only think that those retailers have bought on line and are selling them from their shop (which would explain the BD price). Re the short scale basses, the Tim Commerford video (on the EBMM site and You Tube) gives an explanation of his like for these (along with the mute pads for use with drive, and the ramp). It’s all good, but I really wanted a natural with black hardware - the fact it has all these other variations is great!! Quote

Lozz196 Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Looks really nice, am not usually a fan of black hardware but it really suits that bass and looks great on it. 2 Quote
dub_junkie Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 I like the idea of a passive Stingray. Ebony board and black hardware with the natural ash is a really nice look. Congratulations! 1 Quote
drTStingray Posted August 8, 2021 Author Posted August 8, 2021 Thanks guys - I’m really loving this bass - it will be used at my next gigs at the end of August 👍 can’t wait to hear it at gig volume but it sounds great at home practice level (and a bit louder when I tried the volume boost/cut).
