Connecting cabs?

Hi guys,

 

A technical question. If I had two 4x10 cabs. Which only had 1 speakon input. How would I connect the two cabs please?

Do you have 2 outputs on your amp?  Many have.

Yes it has balanced and unbalanced outs, left and right.

It doesn't have balanced speaker outs, and while speaker outs are technically unbalanced they're never referred to as such. Both of those would be line level.

I can assure you my head has both balanced and unbalanced line outs.

They are NOT speaker out puts!

The clue is in the 'Line outs' label.  Whereas the 'Speaker out' is in a separate section to the left.

Ah so I can't use the line out connection as in stereo? Left and Right? That's what somebody told me at PMT! I'm well aware the usual speaker out in mono is the one with the red nut.

 

So I guess there is no way I can use the two cabs together then?

In short: No, no and no.

 

Line outs will not drive a cab.  They lied or know sweet FA.  Outputs are mono and are rarely in red.  

 

Finally, without wanting to cloud the issue further and based on comms so far, no you can't connect the 2 cabs to your amp.

Of course you could.  Do you have the knowledge and skills to do that?

Skills yes, but a wiring diagram or basic information as to where wires would need to be connected would be needed. I'm used to sorting wiring on motorbikes.

Before you get too carried away with making connections you need to find the impedance of your cabs!!!!

 

If they are 4 ohm you can't have any more than one.

 

The only cabs I have seen without a link jack are 4 ohm. The single jack suits well for not blowing up amps in a fit of enthusiasm.

They are both 8 ohm cabs.

Or get a "Y/Splitter" cable likey so. Plenty around if you Google

Be sure that whatever cable you buy, it uses genuine Neutrik SpeakOn plugs. The cheap Chinese knock-off plugs are notoriously problematic, and the source of many frustrating problems out in the field.

You could if you used them to drive a couple of power amps.

Sorry guys, but I'm new to using two cabs, I had planned to connect cab to cab, which I can't do. With the NL4 splitter. Is it splitting the signal and because of the split it still registers as 8 Ohm load? Or is it like connecting two cabs together and turns into an 4 Ohm load?

Either solution, the splitter cable or the splitter box, give the same solution.

It connects both cabs in parallel, so a 4 ohm load presented to the amp. Exactly like going amp-cab-cab.

Only difference is you need three cables with the box solution.

The splitter cable does it all with 1 cable.
