upside downer Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Cover star of 'Nevermind' to sue the band for exploitation. I thought some versions of the cover had removed the offending appendage but I could be wrong about that. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-58327844 3 Quote
Lozz196 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I’m sure he gets recognised all the time from that shot….. 1 6 Quote
skb558 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) According to another article referenced in the above, he recreated the photograph 5 years ago and allegedly suggested to the photographer that he, Elden, should be naked. "I said to the photographer, 'Let's do it naked.' But he thought that would be weird, so I wore my swim shorts," Spencer told the New York Post. DiMarco Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Fun fact: the original photo depicts exactly what is wrong with this young man. 6 1 6 Quote
SurroundedByManatees Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 My guess is that a lawyer has contacted him with the suggestion that there might be money in it for both of them... Given the fact that this dude was obviously fine with the situation before.. 2 Quote
chris_b Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Obviously an opportunistic attempt to get some cash. 3 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) Perhaps he previously wasn't too concerned about the pic, however more recently whenever he'd meet a young lady and start dating she'd have no idea of his former fame, but then when they were about to get intimate he'd strip off and she'd take one look and say "hey - your winky looks just like the kid's on the Nevermind cover" Edited August 25, 2021 by Jean-Luc Pickguard 6 Quote
TheGreek Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Another grab at his 15mins of fame? Or an out of court settlement? I've no doubt the bands lawyers have it covered... 1 Quote
Jason Karloff Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) Ridiculous. He can't be that distressed by the image if he has a tattoo of it on chest. I wonder if the relatives of David are contemplating sueing Michelangelo for the pain and suffering of portraying him with such small tackle. Edited August 25, 2021 by Jason Karloff 2 Quote
paul_5 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Seriously, if y see that image as pornographic then you should see a psychiatrist and then report to your nearest police station and tell them that you might be a closet nonce. 3 6 Quote
12stringbassist Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) He's capitalised on his image on the album many times. Traumatised? Yeah right.... He stands zero chance of winning. He may even lose a lot of money. Whatever happened to the normal concept of a one-off fee for a job? If his parents put him forward for this, he should sue THEM to get that fee. The members of Nirvana don't have any case to answer. I bet a model release form was signed by someone at the time. They were paid $200 apparently. Edited August 25, 2021 by 12stringbassist 2 1 Quote
gjones Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I think Courtney Love has spent all the cash. Quote
Eldon Tyrell Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Nevermind's 30th anniversary is coming up next month. Lots of PR and media buzz to be expected. Could this have something to do with the guy deciding to sue the remaining band members, Courtney Love and the record labels (15 defendants in total, suing each for at least $150,000) now or could this just be a coincidence? Well, never mind 😉 3 Quote
Rich Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 He's recreated the whole thing twice in the last 11 years, and now all of a sudden he's suffering lifelong damage? This reeks of lawyer from top to bottom. 3 Quote
Hellzero Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 If it was real punk music or grunge as they called it, he should have been sh*tting and pe*ing in the pool at the same time. As said before, the bait is still working. Child pornography : no. Typical stupid cupid American : yes. By the way, did Rolls-Royce sue Oasis for putting a white Silver Shadow in a pool ? 2 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 And let’s not forget he did get paid at the time, his $1 is clearly in the shot. 1 7 Quote

hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I would have paid good money to be in the room when someone told Dave Grohl about it 😂 1 1 6 Quote
Bobo_08 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) Apparently when he was 16 he said to the camera guy should he do it naked, then decided it was not a good idea.... hopefully this will get laughed out of court... but then again. If you google him 'Spencer Elden' you discover he is an artist.... a pretty bad one from the looks of it and most likely skint, hence the lawsuit. Edited August 25, 2021 by Bobo_08 Quote
steantval Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Typical American libel cr*p, unfortunately this sort of stuff is also creeping into the U.K. 1 Quote
ezbass Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) He needs to sue his parents, not the band, but there's no real money in that (what's that sound? Ah, the dry rustle of lawyers’ hands being rubbed together). Edited August 26, 2021 by ezbass 3 Quote

And the “hey, I’m the guy who was the baby on the nevermind cover” pickup line to get laid and the subsequent “damage” of being dumped because his fame wasn’t much of an earner… Just needs to go and trap his head in a door somewhere. 2 Quote
