goaround Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 A friend of mine sent me and some fellow musos some pictures of a bass that he bought in a Gloucester music shop in about 2002. None of us can identify it - can anyone help? Thanks for looking 👍 Quote
Guest Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I was playing a little game in my head, deciding which of A and B would saunter in and answer the question first. I thought for this bass, probably A rather than B? Quote

First impressions suggest a luthier build, maybe '90s or '00s. Leaning towards '90s, as the bridge is an obsolete Gotoh model used on some 90s Ibanez. The 'TR' logo looks sort of familiar but not ringing any specific bells, not yet at least. And that's all I got. 1 Quote

NancyJohnson Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I love a mystery. Anything else? There's some stuff in the case - a 'thanks for your purchase thing, plus what looks like a card receipt. Anything on the back of the headstock or reverse of the bass? Headstock shape is distinctly Michael Kelly. 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 EMG pickups and preamp, Gotoh GB7 first generation (small shaft) tuners and Gotoh Pro bridge. Definitely 90's. Certainly made by, a now disappeared, luthier. 1 Quote
3below Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 (edited) I suspect this was made by a still functioning luthier, Tony Revell in Mid Wales / Shropshire (who is a family friend and has done work on several of my instruments). Edited August 31, 2021 by 3below 3 Quote
Hellzero Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 It's not a Gotoh Pro bridge (aka 206) as it really looks like a Kahler roller bridge type with the whole saddle/string anchoring moving like on a headless system. I've seen this bridge before for sure, but where... 1 Quote

Not a great pic but I've done a bit of tweaking - it's definitely a Gotoh 206. 15 hours ago, bassmayhem said: The logo reminds of Ah - it all makes sense now - Tolkein, Rivendell! 1 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Yep, you're right it's a Gotoh 206. 2 Quote
GBH Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Believe they were marketed as a TR Revelation, late 90's, early 2000's. Guitarist mag ( possibly bassist, I forget) did a review on one. 2 Quote
Grahambythesea Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 The T also looks very similar to the Tanglewood logo. Quote
