Neck Screw Length Q

Bitsa Build....

Body is 45mm / Body Thickness at Pocket is 29mm...

Pocket Depth for Neck is 16mm / Neck thickness is about 25mm inc Fretboard...

Neck Screws are 45mm... So by the time the screws go through the Neck Plate, Plate Gasket and Body there is about 10mm to go in to the neck, of which the first few mm is a taper.

Q. Is this enough? or do i need to try and find say 50mm / 2" screws?.. Don't want to strip out the neck.

Most listings for screws or screws n plates list 45mm... Don't think the P body is overly thick at 45mm?

What ya recon? Any Ideas?

I think I would tend to go with screws another 5mm longer

Is that with the neck plate on? granted that the screws will be countersunk to fit snugly into the plate, but you'll lose a couple of millimetres there.

50mm would be better.

I think i'll fit as-is to crack on a bit,

Then swap out the screws when i find some... 4mm x 50mm... #8 I presume?

 

EDIT: Had a think... I'll miss off the plastic gasket... It's about 2mm thick, so should get me another full turn of good thread... Originaly neck plates never had the gasket.

 

But if Anyone of you Luthier Builder types have got any?

Couldn't hurt to push a piece of wire all the way thru from the plate and see how deep it all is...

I left the plastic gasket out for a couple more mm of thread, and the authentic look... and bolted it all together... but a little more thread wouldn't go amiss for the long term..

My screws are 43mm from end to end 

gasket is 1.5mm inside the rim 

39mm protrudes when gasket used - apols for poor photo, am not blessed with octopus limbs

I might have a look at the Bolt and Threaded Insert option if 50mm screws prove illusive... All Good at the mo...

I’ve never seen longer and I’ve never had any complaints from anyone that took one of these off me. Maybe you’re worrying unnecessarily?
