GHS Strings

Aside from Boomers and P flats, why is the GHS catalogue so hard to come by in the UK?

I have often wondered this.

I used to use Pressurewounds on all 4 string basses (their B is awful, so not on 5 strings) but it got to be so much hassle in finding them I gave up.

strings direct list a few options other than boomers and precision flats (black tapewound and one gauge of pressure wound) but that's it.

 

I love the precision flats though, absolutely perfect on my short scale.

And this leads me to my second point - 

 

Why are US strings so expensive here? DR/La Bella/SIT etc. 

 

It's cheaper for me to order strings from the US even with the high postage costs!

 not all US strings are expensive in the UK, it's just the smaller brands (DR/SIT etc.) the big companies like D'addario and Ernie Ball are similar prices to UK companies like Rotosound

 

It's probably down to the economies of scale that the big companies can take advantage of.

i think with the smaller brands like dr and sit it might be to do with them coming in in smaller batches to the uk which makes them more expensive whereas with daddario or ernie ball theyll be shipping masses all at once no?
