nilebodgers Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 I've got a set of Elixir 45-105 stainless (silver ball ends) that I got on a jazz bass I bought s/h (usa Fender pro1). The strings were partially worn but sounded fine so I haven't replaced them yet, but what is very noticeable is that the G sounds very twangy compared to the 3 other strings. It's not just a slight difference either, it really stands out. I think if I was just playing rocky material it wouldn't be out of place, but I am working on some jazz exercises so trying to get a smooth tone. Backing the passive tone control off takes any zing out of the other 3 strings as expected and they also have a similar timbre, but the G string still really stands out as something different and not jazz! Is this an Elixir thing? Quote
