Pick on its side

Recommended Posts

Rehearsals last night and noticed my favourite pick was slowly turning after playing some fast up tempo songs and it got me thinking about turning the pick and using the larger more rounded corner of the pick

Tried this today and it seemed to stop the pick turn

Doesn’t Bobby Vega turn his pick ?

Bobby Vega does indeed. I used to use the big Dunlop triangle picks, then tried regular ones. Didn't like the flimsy-ness of the thinner tip but didn't want to go back to the big green triangle. Tried a regular pick the Bobby way and it's the comfiest thing even, Just feels RIGHT.

Yep, Bobby V turns it round from the pointy end as does guitarist (yes, I know, but he is a bit good) Robben Ford. Oh yeah, I do too! I find it gives a softer attack, whilst also feeling more comfy.

Whatever works for you! If it sounds good, feels good and does not turn anymore, go for it!

My picks tend to turn as well when I play guitar or bass, no matter the material it is made of. I am now using the violet Dunlop Big Stubby 2mm (also for guitar), it has some kind of a "hole" for your thumb and it helps a lot with my grip, the pick does not move anymore.

That’s how I use a pick. It gives a fatter, but slightly duller tone, which suits me.
