Billy Talbot's Precision with Telecaster bass neck. For some reason I'm much more excited by it when it was white than after he painted it red.

There were two basses in 1982ish made a big impression on me, both white Precisions with tort scratchplates. Gerry McAvoy & John McCoy. I really wanted a white P bass with tort scratchplate. I never did get a white one!

Probably quite uniquely on this thread, I could at the moment buy one of these basses. John McCoy's actual bass is up for sale (if I had £7.5k) although it has changed a bit assuming it's the same one.

The wonderful Bernard Edwards - 1977 Musicman Stingray (I know the bass has been mentioned before - no disrespect to John Taylor, but you can’t beat Bernard playing it).

I've always been a fan of Faith No More and Billy Goulds bass is a big part of their sound so I'd  love to have his signature Zon

I thought their biggest hits had him playing an Aria Magna...?

Where's Billy Sheehan?

Stan the man?

Phil Lesh (Modulus, Alembic, Ritter...)?

I love those experiments, not so much the basic models while talking about "signatures". Stingray is a Stingray. And after saying this, the Pensa-Suhr of the late Victor Bailey looks good, while I do not like the maple colour of MM's bass.

Saw Jethro Tull last night, and noticed that David Goodier is playing a Fender Jazz Bass. I'm  not sure of the exact model, but it had a Badass type bridge, natural finish under clear poly, and looked rather blummen tasty.

Lemmy's Rickenbacker.

Phil Lynott's Precision with the mirror scratchplate.

Geddy Lee's 72 Jazz.

He did on the first two albums I think then changed to the Zon. The Aria sounded nearly as good as the Zon

He used a couple of Aria Integras. I'd love to have one of the early Integras like he usedL

Lovely!!

During the 1st lockdown last year someone on facebook was selling a black Integra DLX for £85. It was an hours drive from me, I ummed and aahhhed about it. When I contacted the seller it had gone. Had there not been a lockdown I'd have been contacting the seller as I was driving over..

For me, it's someone playing an iconic signature bass of another iconic bassist xD

Martin Mendez of Opeth and his Fender MIJ Marcus Miller signature were one of my main reasons for picking up playing bass. His playing and his tone on the Blackwater Park album really struck awe with me, especially that rumbling bit of overdriven slap bass in the title track. I had been playing guitar for a few years when that album came out and I think I had just bought my first bass (but I'm not sure, it's been 21 years!) and this album inspired me to play it a LOT. He and drummer Martin Lopez brought a unique groove to the band that's been slightly lost since Martin Axenroth (no, I don't think being named Martin is a prerequisite to join, but it definitely seems to help) took over drum duties.

McCartney's Yamaha back in the 80s. I saw him with one and went straight out and bought one. Then he went back to his Hofner and has stayed with it ever since.

I've always wondered whether he stays with the Hoffner more for aesthetic reasons and fans nostalgia rather than it being the best bass for the job.

Wasn’t he primarily a guitarist before the Beatles? A short scale less bulky instrument may just feel more natural?

Maybe. But he played a Rickenbacker in the late 60s Beatles, and in Wings.

Mostly for the sound of impending apocalypse, I'd like the Jeff Matz signature Dunable

Jeff is a great bassist, I'm a big fan of High On Fire

Have you seen that he's joined Mutoid Man as well now?

I love the black Gibson Ripper Caleb Scofield played in the Antenna era of Cave In, I can't find a photo of it, so here's him playing it on the Anchor video

First time I watched a clip of him playing his BB, I was knocked out by the tone.

Second time I watched the same clip, I noticed that he didn't seem to be enjoying how far away frets 1 to 5 were.
