ped Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Hi folks I have an old hard case here with some blue paint on the exterior. The case is the typical fender type rectangular sort which I think is wrapped in tolex(?) with the ends wrapped in what fees like vinyl/pleather It seems the general consensus is to spray the case with black paint rather than to try and remove the offending paint. Anyone have any tips, and if paint is the answer, what sort? Quote
Reggaebass Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Isn’t tolex a kinda vinyl ?, you can get vinyl spray paint Quote
ped Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 Yes it certainly seems like it - the texture would make removing the paint difficult so perhaps painting over again would be a good call. I'll look into that, thanks. 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I just looked at one of my cases, I’d guess as long as the surface is clean the vinyl paint would stick 🙂 1 Quote
BlueMoon Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 The classic car guys that I know all swear by this product for (vinyl) seats: https://www.kolorbond.co.uk/vinylkote-paint-leather-vinyl/ I have never used it though, so cannot give first hand experience. Quote

whizzzy Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Halfords sell 'Flexible Vinyl Paint' which they claim is good for PVC, UPVC or vinyl. Never used the stuff myself but it may be another option for you to consider. 3 Quote
Maude Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 I used black shoe polish, the liquid type with a foam applicator on the top, to do an early 70s case a few years ago. It worked really well and has held up nicely, not rubbed off on anything or gone weird. It went on and dried nicely, no streaks or anything. Ignore the white flecks, I don't know what that is in this picture, the case is an even jet black. Quote
