P bass Shootout Sound Comparison Video

I just had a chance to have all of these beautiful basses at the same time in my studio for a weekend.

I used it to make a sound comparison video of 6 Precision type bass guitars, 5 Fender and an alien - Maruszczyk.
Always wanted to test different eras and different price range P basses.

Natural 79 & Candy Apple Red with Quarterpound pickups get my vote, both have a more "scoopy" sound to them.

I actually think I like the white reissue the most. The sunburst is also nice (none of them aren't, I should say).

They all sound good ,and listening through headphones I’d say the natural or sunburst slightly has the edge for me , nice playing btw ☝️

All of them was fun to play. They all have P bass sound, but fell a little bit different.

However, 1968 has something unexplainable in it, maybe the years has something with it, but the feel of 1968 is different then the others.

The sunburst one all day long for me. The Nate got close in Forget me Not though. Great choice of songs for the demo and your playing was really good. Well done :-)

Another vote for the sunburst, sounded great. Don’t ask me exactly why though, just liked it overall.

With a pick, the Vintage '62 pickup of the reissue seems slow to sound, dulls the crispness of the attack. The CS '57 on the postmodern seemed much better, as did the Aguilar on the Maruszczyk. For my taste, the fatness of the tone of Quarterpounder seems to come at the expense of clarity, doesn't seem to capture the resonance cleanly. The 1968 seemed perfect!

 

(I was looking forward to seeing how much those thoughts changed when hearing them played unmuted fingerstyle, but the Steve Harris line was a bit too frenetic for that  😅 )

You are absolutely right about that, but it wasn't more time for me to record a different line

Sunburst and NM for me. The NM had a nice all-round tone, a bit softer than the others but with nice growl. I liked the natural least.

I have to echo the sentiment of Sunburst and NM for me. They are all pretty nice in their own way and you won’t lose with any of those choices. Interesting video and I also enjoyed your playing. Great song choices.
