The thing is even if those tuners were the only option it could have been 100x better simply by plugging the old holes with wooden dowels.

Thing is, there was this Basschatter called '' Dom in Somerset" and he used to re-purpose old basses quite successfully. Now, I'm sure the OP (called 'Dom in Dorset) is not connected, but just wondering if he was just testing out his new project to see what the BC collective thought of it, before taking it on stage at his next gig with those J's....?😏

Could be...my old bass is looking a bit too fancy for that gig.
