The pups are different on this one, bridge missing but the awful 'stop' tailpiece would appear to be original.

That's about 45 minutes down the road from me. 

 

I see these old Russian basses pop up quite a lot, usually at really low prices, but they always look absolutely knackered.

I'd probably hand over the £15 any self-respecting car booter would want for that, but £154?

Yup. I often see the old Russian instruments at local flea markets. I've never bothered asking how much, because they usually look way too rough to even bother with. But they certainly wouldn't be anything like that much. 

 

Especially, when checking local listings and I can pick this up for around £170.
