dumelow Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Saw "Polar Bear" last night at the mint lounge in manchester. Its the bass player and big haired drummer from acoustic ladyland, coupled with two awesome sax players and another lad who was playing guitar, a kaoss pad and even a balloon at one point. Absolutely awesome acoustic jazz stuff i couldnt believe it youtube polar bear i recommend you do!!! Quote
ahpook Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 they are indeed an amazing band. the drummer (seb rochford) is i) amazing and ii) a lovely guy. i shared a house with his brother for a while. Quote
Bilbo Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Have seen Seb but not seen or heard Polar Bear. Will check them out. Just listening to Leafcup. Interesting grooves and textures - a kind of mix between Mingus and Medeski, Martin & Wood. I like it. YouMa Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Doubt they will be around much longer with global warming etc.Shame. Quote
Oscar South Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I saw them at Lichfield Jazz and Blues festival last year, great performance but I felt like the electronics stuff was unnecessary and pretentious. Othewise amazing though, I loved the bass playing especially. Quote
blamelouis Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) Karl pilkinton "What good are polar bears they just float around on a block of ice ? Get rid !" Steve merchant "Again Karl gets his information from a foxs mint wrapper " Edited April 3, 2009 by blamelouis Quote
Spoombung Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Saw them with the Dirty Projectors at the Scala. Thought they were fantastic. Got to talk to the 'big-haired drummer'... who either couldn't hear me very well or wasn't in control of his faculties. Quote
