But it's not tab is it? It's just pictures of a fretboard.

Tab is bars with the strings on. The Cage Song is 120 bars odd of rests. Depending on what tempo you play it at.

If you're going to be so bloody pedantic, you could bother to check your facts.

It is in 4/4 time at 60 beats per minute, so 76 bars long.

History is made... accurate tab! But it is for guitar, not bass 🤔

Can't you just play the notes on the lower strings and drop down the octave for those wee fills higher up? I've had a crack at it and it sounds OK, but it's definitely easier on the five-string, especially those octave jumps from low C#

Well as was said by one learned forum poster, you can work out your bass parts from listening or watching the guitarist, so all's good!

My Apologies on further investigation and fully checking the facts.

It's in 3 movements. No bars, tempos or time signatures were written:

I

TACET

II

TACET

III

TACET

Not according to David Tudor, the pianist who first performed the piece in 1952. But it is somewhat shrouded in mystery.

Am i the only one here that's drawing a blank with this song 4'33".  I'm just not getting anywhere with it. My mind just goes blank every time i stare at it.

Never heard of it so I had to google it, and I just don’t get it , I think it needs some bass 😁

Aha so where you might be going wrong is that its played fingerstyle. Its all in the fingers. You cant play this with a pick.

Its one of the few songs that can be played left-handed when you are right handed with the bass inverted to have the G string at the top.

Does that help ?  :drinks:

Jazz and blues guy, Dave.

Currently plays with Keb Mo, plays lefty with the thin string at the top.

That was nice and nice wee solo spot at 3:30 and 4:30. Kinda funky blues style. Very enjoyable and easy to listen too.

He's got a really weird slap style and i always wondered how you managed to do that .

I do have to point out that he's not Right Handed tho so would probably struggle playing 4'33" altho he does have a flying start with the correct bass. 😂:tatice_03:

Well I’ve just heard a song on the radio that I’m not really familiar with, that I could play after 1 listen, I even anticipated the little walk up to some the notes , the song was , pearls the singer by elkie brooks, so @TimR is right 😁

Why thank you. My work here is done. 😁

You can probably play the same bass line to Linving Next Door to Alice. A song I'd never heard before having to play it on the fly in a working man's club about 20 years ago. They went absolutely crazy over it. Guess we must have played 20 verses and an encore. Never played it since. Maybe I should learn it properly.
