Supernaut Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 I'm after a Precision that isn't a Fender. I've got a £1k budget. Fender's QC is too hit and miss for me. G&L and Yamaha seem to be the main contenders - anything else worth checking out? 1 Quote
Bassassin Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 I'll be the first to say Westone Thunder I. Five of 'em, with that budget. 😎 2 Quote
fretmeister Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Sandberg California VS4 Passive. They tend to peek just over £1K, and about two thirds of that used. The ones you might see at £1200+ new will be the active ones or with the aged finish. Sandberg necks are lovely. The stock pickup can be a bit modern so maybe look for a used one and use the balance to stick in a nice Aguilar 60s wind pickup or a Fender custom shop one. 2 Quote
Ander87 Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Limelight basses - Mark at Classic and Cool guitars can build you a beauty like these in 10/12 weeks to your spec: Quote
TheGreek Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Is purple Flavour of the Month currently, colour-wise? I've seen a few really nice ones. 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 A friend of mine who plays precision’s all the time has spoken very highly about the , Bass collection P basses, I’m not sure but I don’t think they are active, might be worth taking a look at them 1 Quote
Doctor J Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 The Lakland 44-64 GZ is in that price range. Jazz nut width, if that's your thing, and comes with the Geezer signature EMGs which seem to be highly rated. It has a J pickup too, but you don't have to turn it up 😉 Quote
Ander87 Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 … and @Dov65 has a great price on one available…! 1 minute ago, Doctor J said: The Lakland 44-64 GZ is in that price range. Lozz196 Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Worth checking out the Vintage basses, although way less than budget stated they are very good instruments. 1 Quote

Fantastic basses for £400 Quote

Fantastic basses for £400 Good point - but they do tend to be quite a bit heavier. That's important to me, but the OP might be young! Quote

NancyJohnson Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 If you have a grand, build one from sourced parts. For that amount, you could probably build two. 3 Quote
