Supernaut Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I have an MXR M80 that is only used as an emergency DI for gigs. Would there be any advantage to getting a Radial / Countryman to use instead? 95% of gigs I play is Sandberg > Polytune > Markbass combo. Quote
Downunderwonder Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Not really. Presumably you mean emergency as in your combo rig goes down hard. Might as well have some tone in your emergency DI. 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I think if looking for any changes I’d look at a DI/preamp pedal that sounded as similar to the amp as possible. Quote

Agreed. I carry my old Dave Hall drive EQ/DI unit for this - gets me sounding how I like in a pinch, particularly on a shared or house backline that may prove a little not to my taste! Quote
Supernaut Posted November 3, 2021 Author Posted November 3, 2021 I always use the pre EQ option when DI'ing from my amp so I'm not super fussed about getting something with controls - my Sandberg already has plenty of tonal options on tap. Quote
Doddy Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 I guess it depends if you'd want the EQ from the MXR, and where you want it in your chain. I always carry a standalone DI box with me to every gig. For years I carried an EMO passive box which is dead simple and works great, but I recently bought a Warm Audio Active DI and it's made a huge difference to my sound out front. It's also better than a lot of the venue supplied boxes. Quote
DanOwens Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Depends what you need it for. I work with a lot of acoustic instruments, so I have this as a spare: https://www.studiospares.com/studiospares-di-boxpreamp-458190.htm Quote
Supernaut Posted November 4, 2021 Author Posted November 4, 2021 All I'm after is a good quality DI that I can use live and send a strong signal to the FOH. Possibly for recording also. Quote

Lozz196 Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 From reading your responses I’d agree, think the MXR fits your needs nicely. Having just bought one myself they’re a really nice piece of kit. Quote
Downunderwonder Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 I would hang onto the EQ for any backline provided gigs that have 'Fender EQ' amps. Quote
skychaserhigh Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 http://jtamps.com/products/ I've been using the Alpha di for a little while now , not cheap but totally worth every penny. Quote
