Combed20
I have the Fender Nate Mendel sig P bass and I absolutely love it. I also have a Fender MIM maple P bass which I use as a back up. I put SD quater pounds in the MIM to try and get as close the Mendel tone as possible. The MIM is quite a bit thinner in sound, especially when I roll the tone up. I'm wondering if changing the pots could help?

I would look at strings before pots, but all being equal It might be it's just a different sounding bass!
deepbass5
I can recommend the Stellartone Tone Styler Passive Tone Control, as a direct replacement, they give a broader range of tones in increments than the the old pots with fixed Cap' that drops off a cliff after just a fraction of a turn. You can look them up on the Bassdirect site - other establishments may keep them. Edited November 20, 2021 by deepbass5
Velarian
When I built my bitsa P-Bass if fitted a wiring loom from @KiOgon. It has CTS pots and a 1µF capacitor. It sounds lush, especially with the tone rolled off about half way.

LukeFRC
If values are the same a new loom won’t change the sound, just make the knobs nicer to twiddle
