P bass control plate.

Looking to source just the control plate, not the whole pick guard for a standard P bass (not a 51/ Tele).

Found some rocking horse poo, but not the above. 
 

Any pointers? I’m not up to making one.

Are you talking about a metal control plate à la jazz bass style but in a p shape?

 

I just went through this conundrum with my P-bass bitsa build but gave up trying to source one and ended up getting a mirrored pick guard and trimming it down. It wasn’t entirely successful as I’m a bit cack-handed when it comes to craft skills but it will do until a better alternative comes along. So, I can’t answer your question but I’m interested in the outcome.

 

I did think about contacting these guys but haven’t got around to it yet.

They seem oriented to normal plastic/acrylic/celluloid versions but might be able to do a metal one at a price.

That’s the sort of thing I had in mind but it would still need trimming to fit a standard p bass with all the associated risk of messing it up.

They look ideal, apart from the extra hole. If they did one with just 3 holes it’d be exactly what I’m after.

That’s what I’m thinking too. I wonder how well it would actually fit a Precision because the mounting holes are not in the same place as a standard pick guard.

BTW this bass is strung with Adagio flats and now I’ve got it set up properly it plays flawlessly all the way up the neck. Coupled with a wiring loom from @KiOgon it sounds excellent. 🙂

I just used a fret saw and then a flat file around the edges to add a bevel to match the existing one (well, when I say ‘match’ it’s an approximation. It doesn’t bear close scrutiny 😂 )

I tried one of those but it doesn’t really work unfortunately.

Following Peter's posts above (@WabiSabi), I went ahead and ordered one of his P-Base control plates, which arrived this morning. Peter was extremely responsive and helpful and there were no difficulties with any of that Brexit nonsense that might be associated with ordering stuff from the EU. It's a really nice quality part and it provides the finishing touch to my earlier bitsa project. 🙂

Very nice, I really like P-Basses with a metal control plate aesthetically but also functionally as the circuit can be tweaked/fixed without removing the whole plate. Lovely work Peter @WabiSabi, I might be getting in contact soon 👍

This is a really beautiful sunburst body (with internal routing and its very precise pickup cavity), shining in full glory! A perfect example of what I had in mind when preparing the PBase control plate for its first production series.
