Mickyk
Serious question could the Last Post be played on a Bass guitar, I have an Uncle whose son was lost in ww2,and he's coming round on Sunday for a Slice a Cake and a Cuppa Tea. If it could ?can anyone help me out with the tabs. Edited November 12, 2021 by Mickyk
Nail Soup
I reckon it could work. Maybe with tone not too bassy and bit of honk/sustain. Googling only gave a link to the bass tab for a Libertines song which has Last Post in the title!
Burns-bass
You should be able to figure it out from this. https://www.ultimate-tabs.com/misc-traditional/anzac-last-post-tab Im intrigued as to how old your uncle is if his son fought on WW2. Both of my grandparents who were veterans have sadly passed.
Dan Dare
Do you have a fretless? It might sound a bit meh on a fretted. I wondered about the following, too. My father fought in WW2 and he died 15 years ago at the age of 86. 2 minutes ago, Burns-bass said: I'm intrigued as to how old your uncle is if his son fought on WW2. Nail Soup
Going well outside of my music theory comfort zone here, but doesn’t the bugle just play the simple harmonic notes of the scale…. And therefore could be played using harmonics on bass? Just thinking out loud ……..

I’ve got family who fought there too. What you’re doing is very thoughtful and a very kind gesture. I took my dad to the Menin Gate and we heard the last post and went to see where some of our family had fought and died. Let us know how it goes! It's quite easy on bass, only 5 notes, you should be able to work it out from this: https://www.mfiles.co.uk/scores/the-last-post.htm If you can't read the time, listen here (number 11): https://www.householddivision.org.uk/act-of-remembrance There should be a vid of Mark Knopfler playing it on guitar, in remembrance of The Northumberland Regiments who had huge losses in WW1. lowdown
It's just five notes around a Major Triad. From what I've heard the last couple of days, Bugle players have been playing it in Bb. I've also heard a Trumpet player playing it in Eb. The fellow below plays it in 'G' using harmonics.
lowdown
Apart from the traditional regimental Bb Bugles for military calls (notated in C). There is also a Soprano Bugle in G with a horizontal valve so it can be played in D as well. Drum & Bugle Corps use it. Which kind of falls into place with the Bass harmonics in 'G' version played by the Bassist above. I believe there are two and three valve Bugles also used in the Corps This chap below, explains the various Bugles very well. Bit surprised to be right about that to be honest😉
Jason Karloff
You certainly can play it. I've been playing it on a fretless for years.
TimR
Bugles can only play the Bb major arpeggio. Edited November 13, 2021 by TimR
