How many extra drinks does a pub need to sell to cover a £250 band?

My local landlord claims he only makes about 80p on a pint. Most of his money goes to the brewery. So I suspect the idea of a budget paid directly from the brewery is more likely.

He resists putting any entertainment on whatsoever. He makes all his profit from food sales.

Theres a bar in my home town which in the 90's was THE place to play. It had live music on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I recently went in for a pint on  a Saturday night and there were only about a dozen people in at 11 pm. I asked the barman if this was usual and he said oh, but it was mobbed earlier for bar meals. That is what they are catering for now. It was a sad day.

Food has always been where the profit is in pubs.

how much a landlord makes drinks is dependant on what deal they're on as regards leasing, those that actually own the building can probably get beer  for not much over £1 a pint, that's how the much maligned Mr Wetherspoon does it, those who are tied to a pub company find it very difficult, of course most of them get a bit back with an entertainment allowance.

We play regularly at a pub, or did before Covid, that didn't have nearly enough people in it to buy the extra drinks to pay our fee, kept getting asked back because the landlady liked us and she didn't foot the bill

Pubs used to be pubs selling pies or sandwiches. Over the years they have evolved into restaurants.

Pubs used to be coaching houses where you could get a meal, a bed for the night and a fresh horse.

Those were the days.

<sings> And I'm a dandy highway man...
