Richard R Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 Is this bass a specific commission, or for stock? Asking for a friend... 2 Quote

It's for me but tell your friend to get in touch via my website wwwscavengermusic.co.uk or via my Facebook page. I have lots of interesting timber waiting for the chance to become a bass. Quote

Annoyingly there's tons of them if you're searching eBay or AliExpress for bass bridges. 1 Quote
Henrythe8 Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Oh. I didn't know you were taking orders. That's unfortunate news, I should get out of here. 🙂 Before I engage in a conversation that'll end up with less money in my bank 🙂 1 Quote

Dom in Dorset Posted January 6, 2022 Author Posted January 6, 2022 Last of the routing on the bass and I've picked out the remaining white fillers from the worm holes. After a final sanding and oiling... The headstock is now shaped and the fretboard trimmed.. I can't fret it until I've fitted the dot markers that should look something like this... 7 Quote
Jimothey Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 I think them fret markers will look really different! I've only ever seen the stickers? Are they going to be metal or you going to resin them or something? 👍🏻 Quote
Richard R Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 They almost look like ear studs - which opens up a whole world of possibilities for someone with skill, a Dremell, and some resin. I've got some cuff links that would work rather well too. Quote
Dom in Dorset Posted January 7, 2022 Author Posted January 7, 2022 They are stud earrings, five pairs should do it. It's going to be tricky to inlay them but I'm feeling confident 😕 2 Quote

Who wants two boring dots on the fretboard at the 12th fret when you could have a silver feather, for example? (And if you're suitably pierced could wear a matching one in your ear and see if anyone ever noticed 😅) Quote

Dom in Dorset Posted January 16, 2022 Author Posted January 16, 2022 I've been a bit distracted by this Back onto the bass next week, the ear studs have arrived so no excuses. ♠️ 5 Quote
Dom in Dorset Posted January 27, 2022 Author Posted January 27, 2022 (edited) Fitting the dot markers turned out to be more tricky than I thought. The course grain of the oak and the tiny aces meant inlaying wasn't an option. In the end I drilled 10 mm holes and set the aces in black filler .Not as crisp as I'd intended but still in character for the instrument. And of course it's now fretted. Fretting in progress: Ready for fret leveling and polishing: The neck so far : Carving and sanding the back of the neck: Carved ,sanded and oiled: Progress so far: Edited January 27, 2022 by Dom in Dorset You'll have to wait for the official report. 6 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 That looks awesome! I love a bit of texture in wood. Quote
Jimothey Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 I think the inlays look really good! IMHO I think if they weren't in the black they might have got lost I think it makes them pop a bit better..... 👍🏻 1 Quote

Joe Nation Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 I don’t generally like f-holes, bound bodies or Ps, but I really like this. I especially love the little peak at the end of the fretboard. Quote
