Stub Mandrel
I like the blue/green best by a narrow margin. Those knobs look a bit magenta...

I’m trying another blue/green as I am also leaning this way… maybe even with a black base sanded back then blue, and then a green highlight

Bridgehouse
Enough is enough. I can’t keep staining bits of offcut. So, here it is with the first coat of Phthalo Blue…
Bridgehouse
Yeah, back looks a bit different - it’s cos it was done first and thus had dried more. Will post shots when it’s dried.

Bridgehouse
First sanding down done - 120 grit wet and dry. Here it is damped to remove dust and check evenness…
Bridgehouse
Well, I’ve now given it a sanding down to 1200 grit, and another coat of Blue. Its drying, and if I can get a half decent shot tonight then I will do
Stub Mandrel
Did you sneak a dose of black in first?

No, I decided against it, as the black experiment showed a lot of contrast, and I preferred the straight blue then green..
Bridgehouse
Plus, the Blue seems to do a good job of darkening the grain quite a bit anyway…

Bridgehouse
Some sanding later and wetting to show the colours as they would be with oil/finish applied… I think a few more coats of green..
Bridgehouse
Have applied a couple more coats of green. It’s close now. Need to order some finishing oil and then we can move on to assembly…
Bridgehouse
A couple of green coats, and wetted to bring out the colours - with cream fittings….
ezbass
Ooh, quite teal, I approve. The covers and knobs look very nice in situ, the finish makes the difference in cream tone much less obvious.

It’s about the right balance of teal now, and there’s plenty of contrasting blue and green areas. It’s quite shimmery when wet, so I reckon the finishing oil will bring that out nicely. Will be interesting to see how it looks with some oil on.
Bridgehouse
Well, it feels like a satin finish would suit this colour better than gloss. So I’m considering a good old Danish oil finish. Can’t quite make my mind up tho and might still try the Crimson high build oil.
Stub Mandrel
For my Tele I went for pur tung oil, which dries really slowly. In the end I have used 'restoration wax' (clone of renaissance wax) to give a satin finish. Can't put it together properly until I dig out and set up my decent soldering station.
Bridgehouse
Caved in and ordered the Crimson Oil. Minor hold period whilst I wait for it to arrive. Neck is looking nice tho - it’s had quite a few coats of Danish Oil now and it’s getting close…
