Amber4283
Hello! My boyfriend is an avid bass player and I am wanting to get him a headphone amp for christmas. Problem is, I don't know much about the equipment and what is considered "good" for advanced players. One that would be good for camping (more portable, less things to bring) would be ideal! What headphone amp is worth the purchase? Additionally, is there anything else I should consider getting to go along with the gift? Thanks in advance! Muppet
I’m a big fan of the Ashdown Tonepocket, now with Bluetooth. Small and great sound.
fretmeister
If he has a smart phone then an interface would allow him to plug bass into interface, then into the phone and use a wide range of apps made just for this purpose. Amplitube is a great app with loads of sounds in it, and he can import music into the app to play along with it for practice. Unless there's no way to recharge the phone while camping. In that case it might not be a great idea. Depending on whether the phone is iOS or Android there are quite a few options for the interface. But if money's not an issue, then I'd also vote for the Boss Waza Air headphone set up. It's very clever! pineweasel
I like the Nux Mighty Plug. Teamed with some compact ear buds it's a genuinely pocket sized practise setup.

Dan Dare
I don't know how you'd feel about not giving an actual present on the day, but it can be a little risky buying something specialised, such as musical equipment, sports kit, etc, etc that you may not have knowledge of personally. The suggestions above are all good (and of varying cost), but choosing can be difficult. When I want to buy something I don't have knowledge of for someone, I will design and print a mock gift token on the PC - with lots of snazzy type-faces, colours, etc - that says something along the lines of "This entitles the recipient to choose a bass amp/golf club/fishing rod/etc of their choice". Then I go shopping with them and pay for it. Maybe not as good as giving an actual present on the day, but it means they get something they really want/like. CJPJ
Can’t recommend the Fender Mustang enough. Super-compact and loads of effects if you want them. You can BT tracks to play over too. Only downside - which is a plus for me - is that you have to plug in headphones to the Mustang rather than BT them. But if you’ve got a decent paid of studio cans you can great audio quality with no latency. Edited January 12, 2022 by CJPJ
