alyctes Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Or maybe boot polish. (Couldn't possibly be anything so wimpy as shoe polish, not for this guy...) Quote
Hellzero Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 (edited) I'm sure it's the new Mike + The Mechanics signature model. Woohoo greasy ! Edited December 4, 2021 by Hellzero Fat fingers on a small smartphone 1 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 Ah the old "hit with a chisel than colour it in with a Sharpie" relic technique, only the most masterful luthiers are capable of such work. Quote
Bassassin Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 If that was a tenner at the car boot I'd probably leave it there, as it would need far too much work to make it sellable. Wondering if all the black muck smeared over the belly cut is an attempt to hide plywood laminations. 1 Quote
Bridgehouse Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 I wonder if you get a free tetanus shot with it as well? 1 Quote
bassbloke Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 This bass certainly has some vintage mojo. It's probably also carrying the bubonic plague. 1 Quote
yorks5stringer Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 I think what happens with these relics is that the perpetrator sees an earlier relic job that is not very good and seeks to better it but ends up doing it more badly. This then perpetuates and indeed makes worse their relic job and then someone else comes along etc etc etc..... Quote
rushbo Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 I do like a reliced bass. There - I've said it. However, the relicing should bear some relation to natural wear. I have no idea how a musical instrument could end up looking like this, unless it's been used as an oversized spatula to ladle heavy duty lubricant into the mouth of an over-aggresive, robot shark. Once, in the not too distant past, that was a nice looking instrument. Unfortunately, following its recent "customisation" you now need rubber gloves, full body PPE and a tetanus jab just to look at it. Shame. 1 1 Quote
ChrisLovatt Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 That must've used up a lot of sharpies 1 Quote
