bornleft Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 One thing I never understood about these wood cavity covers is how do they match so perfectly when one considers the routing around the perimeter which must remove a minimum of 1/8" around the perimeter on all sides? Quote
funkle Posted February 22, 2023 Author Posted February 22, 2023 No idea…. @Chopthebass could perhaps answer that… Quote

I cut the cavity cover using a laser. I did this before glueing the wood to the body. 2 Quote
Chopthebass Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 You can get router cutters that are 0.5mm diameter, and I used to cut covers using these before I got the laser. It’s slow going with such a small cutter, and requires numerous passes! 2 Quote

NickA Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Build tech beyond Electric Wood's cowshed there! Lasers indeed 😯 Though one of my Wals has a black plastic cover and the other a home made aluminium one ( the original was cracked and I reckoned ally would be better shielding; it is, but it makes no odds ), so not essential to the sound 😉 1 Quote
Chopthebass Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 I wish I was able to say ‘one of my Wals’ 😆 2 Quote
