visog Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 I'm a no. Famously Eric Clapton played a gig layed out on some drug or other. Not for me. I want the artist to be present and delivering... Fine if they get wasted afterwards. So sad watching the Jaco vids where he's marred by drugs and alcohol. Such a contrast from when he's on and present and killing it. Same with Holdsworth... 1 Quote

I neck far more than is good for me, but I have a golden rule of no booze or pharmaceuticals before or during a rehearsal or gig. It's disrespectful both to the punters and my bandmates. Nail Soup Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Good fun! Love to have a couple of pints at a folk circle or similar type of play-along. I stick to no booze at a gig until after the show though. Quote
Mykesbass Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Surgical spirit all the way for me (well the fingertips have gone soft during lockdown). Quote
ubit Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I always performed with a few in me. For some reason I found that my vocal chords loosened. I know vocal teachers would disagree with this but it worked for me. Helped with stage fright too. On the few occasions where I played totally sober I was tight and stilted and my voice would start straining after a while. Quote
