I'm a no. Famously Eric Clapton played a gig layed out on some drug or other. Not for me. I want the artist to be present and delivering... Fine if they get wasted afterwards. So sad watching the Jaco vids where he's marred by drugs and alcohol. Such a contrast from when he's on and present and killing it. Same with Holdsworth...

Same here. I neck far more than is good for me, but I have a golden rule of no booze or pharmaceuticals before or during a rehearsal or gig. It's disrespectful both to the punters and my bandmates.

I always performed with a few in me. For some reason I found that my vocal chords loosened. I know vocal teachers would disagree with this but it worked for me. Helped with stage fright too. On the few occasions where I played totally sober I was tight and stilted and my voice would start straining after a while.
