Old Horse Murphy
I recently acquired a Miami Blue Fender P Bass and wondered if a tortoise shell pickguard goes with it cue evil tortoise haters...) The colour of the bass is more turquoise than on the photos and the last pick is probably the closest to the actual colour. The pickguard is a bit duller than it really is as it still has the protective film on it. Does the tortoise shell work? If not I'm going to put a black one in it.
obbm
That's almost the same colour scheme as the Lakland DJ4 that you sold me many years ago. West Ham wasn't it?
Old Horse Murphy
It's similar Dave, but nowhere near as blue as the DJ4. It's really a dark turquoise but really difficult to capture in camera. Edited December 22, 2021 by Old Horse Murphy
Pea Turgh
Minty white or gold anodized might work, too?
Shaggy
The tort works for me.......👍
jd56hawk
I own ten basses, not one with tort, but I think that looks great!. Especially in the last shot where the pickguard looks a bit brighter. Edited December 22, 2021 by jd56hawk
Clarky
I vote for the mint (stock?) scratchplate in pic 3. Or gold anodised, as suggested above. Afraid the tort doesn't work for me Nick
PaulThePlug
As-Is... (non lé tort..)

Velarian
Whilst I’m not averse to a bit of tort, I think black would work best with that colour body.
BillyBass
All personal taste of course but I'm not a fan of tort with blue; the pick guard in pic 3, which came with the bass, works ok. Miami blue is a nice colour. I have a 'Tidepool blue' Mexican Jazz with a maple neck. I would like to change the pick guard because the standard white is a bit boring but I just can't think of anything else that will improve it. My candy apple red P bass was simple, Tort! But blue basses are more difficult to improve.
Boodang
A lump of white plastic = bluuuhhh! Tortoiseshell = awesome, and always will!

fretmeister
No. Might as well put it on a pizza next to the pineapple and go 100% deviant.
ezbass
It’s ok (I like tort generally) and I prefer it to the white, but I can’t help thinking 3 ply black would be best.
ead
I like the seafoam(?)/tort combo.
fretmeister
I think black would look perfect on that. White pearl a close second
Old Horse Murphy
Thanks for all your advice. I thought I'd fully fit it and see how it grows on me. It looks a bit bette to me now it's on. I've ordered a black one too. I'll see if I can borrow an aged Pearl one to try as well.

Pea Turgh
I think black would be too harsh. Tort looks much better fitted 👍
