Stub Mandrel
On the whole, the albums with jaw-dropping bass playing skills I don't find hugely inspirational. Even thoughs that I like such as School Days, Heavy Weather and Hounds of Love. The album which had me playing along more than any other (probably about once a week) in the 90s was this one, surprised the needle didn't come out the far side of the vinyl. <EDIT> Actually it's SSSSH! I used to play along to all the time, the bass on Watt is a step up and often way past my skill level then, although I did work out Think About the Times which is one of my favourite walking lines. Any way, Leo Lyons is massively under-rated. Also many albums with Dave Pegg on. Edited January 1, 2022 by Stub Mandrel

A recent album that has some really nice bass playing on it is: Hayley Williams - Petals for armour. Joey Howard is a monster, he has a great pocket. pete.young
Truly jaw-dropping? Only this really - the first time I heard what could be done other than root-fifth on a bass guitar.

And those extraordinary albums : Adfa by Jonas Hellborg, Bass Time by Offground Tag, Bestial Cluster by Mick Karn, Discipline by King Crimson, East West by Bill Frisell, Hejira by Joni Mitchell, Rebirth by Aka Moon, Space Ritual by Hawkwind, Trio in Tokyo by Michel Petrucciani, Upper Extremities by Bruford Levin, Voice by Hiromi, We get Requests by The Oscar Peterson Trio. And a lot more... I haven't heard any of those before but after you've gone to all the trouble to put them in alphabetical order I feel obliged to make the effort. Well done sir!

Cracking lines. These days, still a bit of Hawkwind/Motorhead, anything by Yes, Renaissance, Genesis, Purple Mk 2 & 3, anything by Bow Wow Wow, Fleetwood Mac, Stranglers, ABBA, the first 3 Jamiroquai albums, Zero 7, Chic, the first Stanley Clarke album, anything featuring Jimmy Johnson, BSSM (Chilis - see Bow Wow Wow 😂), The Beatles, off the top of my head. Lfalex v1.1
So- Peter Gabriel. Nilsson Schmilsson- Harry Nilsson. That part in the full length cut of Jump into the Fire where whoever's playing (Voorman or Flowers) detuned is crazy. Was it just detuned, or are they detuning it on the fly whilst playing? Look Sharp (&) I'm the man- Joe Jackson. Edited January 13, 2022 by Lfalex v1.

It seems there's been more than one band called Om and the one I know of also has some brilliant bass playing.
dmz
I’m aware of both Om’s - one jazz (Cerberus) and the other metal. Like them both. Just to confuse things further there is a great fusion outfit called Ohm - whose bass player has been influenced more than a bit by Percy Jones. The album is “Amino Acid Flashback”
