terryj Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Hi Guys, has anyone had any experience with "Heussall" pickups? I've seen them on Maruszczyk basses not sure if it's there own make pickup. Quote
Dazed Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 No I believe they are an independent German company. https://haeussel.com/index.php?id=30# Quote
Merton Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 @Cosmicrain has built a fair few basses with them in, for example the recent Funkmeister P he built for @GreeneKing They may be able to offer some thoughts Quote
GreeneKing Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 (edited) I believe that there is a lot of hyperbole around pickups. There is only so much you can do with wire and magnets. There is little if any 'magic'. I'm very pleased with my Haessel pickups. I have a medium scale bass with their P pickups and it's very strong while retaining a great tone. It's a great signal to start with and sounds good both passive and active. I like, a lot Peter Edited December 29, 2021 by GreeneKing 3 Quote
terryj Posted December 29, 2021 Author Posted December 29, 2021 Thanks guys, it gives me a lot to think about, cheers. Quote
Cosmicrain Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 I've used Harry Haessel in Germany a lot and I've never yet had a pickup that I was not happy with. Harry does indeed make all the pickups himself with a very small team of co-workers. He has a very long wait time if you order something that is not in stock and has to be made, but the wait is worth it. The other 'P' pickup I would recommend as an absolute killer of a pickup is the Lindy Fralin 5% over-wound, they really are stunningly wonderful pickups. I hope this helps, regards Mike at Zoot. https://www.fralinpickups.com/product/p-bass/ 1 Quote
Merton Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Just wish Lindy Fralin would do a 5 string P eh @Cosmicrain hahaha 😉 1 Quote

Dazed Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Who does do a good 5 string split coil p pickup? Quote

I fitted an AG 5P-60CL to a bass I made for Kei Kato in Japan, it sounded killer with the Aggie and an active/passive Klaus Noll 3 band E.Q. see picture below of the bass. 2 Quote

A Bill Lawrence P-46 will fit a 5 string, sounds clean and clear and yes it’s THAT Bill Lawrence! Guest Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Would the laws of pickup design allow a 5 string split pickup to be built which had the B string on the D-G part instead of the E-A part? Would look very odd, I know that.... Quote
krispn Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 It’d be a routing mess would it not? What’s the thinking behind that design? Reverse p style ‘tighter’ bass response on the B string? You’d be better off with a Jazz bass 😀 Quote

It’s designed for either 4 or 5 string basses. 1 Quote

Some strings would be over the coils of both pickups shells. Interesting. Quote

There probably more info on the site. I use one and it’s a really nice sounding pick up. 1 Quote
