vmaxblues
but, it seems that an awful lot of Jazz basses are coming up for sale recently and very few precisions, is there a reason for this? Which are the most popular here?
Jase
I like both but been thinking about using a P again....haven't had one for ages and it's calling!
6stringbassist
I voted jazz 'cos that'd be my choice of the two, but I don't really like either.
spike
I voted Jazz because I don't get on with the Precision neck. Jazzes look nicer too.
Machines
If I had to have just the one then a Jazz, both would be ideal though. Oh wait.. I have both yay !
Shockwave
Precision, and i am a pretty technical player. Kinda weird as Jazz's usually lend themselves better for my style of play. But Jazz's aint got that lovely precision neck ;-)
waynepunkdude
Can't choose I love both.
The Funk
Telecasters have overtaken Stratocasters for the first time in 40 years. I think the same's happening with Precisions and Jazzes. I love my Jazzes and wouldn't play a Precision. It's not that they're not good instruments. They don't suit me tone-wise.
Rich
Jazzes are great, I love 'em. Can't get on with that big fat baseball bat P neck. "Telecasters have overtaken Stratocasters for the first time in 40 years", cool I like Teles.

Funny because I've been a Strat dude for dnkey's years and just got Tele for christmas (no, not a 42" widescreen) and prefer its tone to my Strat. waynepunkdude
I always think Tele's look pretentious then again I dislike Strats. SG FTW
BigRedX
Don't really get on with either P or J type basses...
BigBeefChief
I'm a jazz man, but was noodling on a P the other day and was growing to like it. Quite fancy one in that orangey/pinkey colour with the gold adonised scratch plate.

BigBeefChief
It's this one I love the look of: http://www.thebassgallery.com/fenderpbass50mex.html
john_the_bass
If your only experience of playing a P is a not particularly recent one, then try one of the newer models with the rolled fingerboard edges - they do make the neck feel a bit thinner and more manageable. I've always preferred Precisions to Jazzes, I much prefer the tone of a P Bass

casapete
Voted for Precision - maybe not as versatile as a Jazz, but just has the right vibe. Love 'em both though. Fender truly defined things with the Precision&Jazz,( as well as the Telecaster and Strat gui**rs). Despite trying lots of others, its always a Fender or a close relative (Musicman / G&L etc) that I revert to.
Jase
This is just getting my gas for a P to new levels! Anyone want to trade my J for their P?
pricechris10
Sorry!! Couldn't decide. I like both!
neepheid
P all the way, don't like Jazz necks, and I don't really like the way Jazzes look either, at least not standard ones with the huge "look at me" chrome control plate.
Bay Splayer
definitely jazz
Geek99
Jazzes foe me - trying the 62 ri neck was a revelation. Not sure why mines so trebbly though - lwtait said it reminded him of a rickenbacker!
Jean-Luc Pickguard
I voted precision as mustang wasn't an option. Saying that I used my cherryburst precison for a gig last week& I loved the big chewy tone.
bumnote
I struggled a lot initially with the big neck on a precision, particulaly as I came originally from 6 strings, and to me, it just feels so right before you even turn the amp on. I would actually like to reverse the duck dunn idea and try a jazz with a precision neck
