KennysFord
Hey Folks. I joined a reformed Chicago style blues band last week. When i played them the sort of funky stuff i like the Chicago stuff went out the window.I need a few recommendations along the lines of Nasty Habits,Mary had a little lamb,A woman named trouble etc. The funkier the better please but it needs to be in a Blues Stylee. Thanks in advance. Edited April 7, 2009 by kennyrodg
The Funk
Son Seals ft. Phish - Funky Bitch. Some of BB's later stuff is quite funky. Same with Albert King. Most of the guys out of Austin, TX are quite funky, playing in that SRV style. So you could try some Doyle Bramhall. Oh, Robert Randolph! Ray
Check out some Ivan "Boogaloo" Joe Jones. Not sure if it'll be exactly what you're looking for but some of his stuff is well funky. The albums "What It Is", "Snake Rhythm Rock" and "Black Whip" spring to mind. Quite jazzy but still bluesy too. Hope this helps.

The Funk
Actually, you could just play some Hendrix-y blues. His versions of Killing Floor and Rock Me Baby are pretty funky.
casapete
Freddie King - there's a great compilation called 'Stayin' Home with the Blues' B.B.King - 'Midnight Believer' album, with The Crusaders J.J. Cale - some of his songs are great to do, as are Tony Joe White's. Bobby Bland Bonnie Raitt Eric Johnson etc etc...

51m0n
Quite a bit of The Meters stuff is in a blues(ish) form in fact, and it dont get any funkier! Dr John (Right Place Wrong Time) is close (no 5 chord IIRC), in fact any New Orleans blues is so funky it hurts, although rarely a 12 bar it still definitely got a blues thing going on. Happy Jack
See what you mean about Otis Rush's bass player. Gollum meets Noel Redding. That vid is from 1981, so I'm guessing the poor sod has hellish back trouble by now.
