moley6knipe
Betsy (the Fender Dimension) is just back from the excellent Jon Haire in Peterborough. Been two years since last service, needed some fret levelling. I can do the basics but JH is the MAN. All perfectly fettled now with D’addario Nickel 50-135. I love a good setup and I love fresh strings 😍
Lozz196
I had our very own @gary mac do a fret level for me, also on a 5 string Fender (but Precision, natch) and it really made a difference to how the bass could be set up.
moley6knipe
100%. We’re running 1.8 on the G to 2 on the B and it’s lovely. Have been forcing myself to a floating thumb mute rather than anchoring the thumb on the pickup which means I’m plucking softer. And if I dig in it does that delicious “raspy” thing. Especially in single coil mode. I’ve never had a bass play as well as this one! If you’re near a Peterborough Jon Haire is the optimal choice for bass setup fun! Lo-E
A fresh setup is a wonderful thing! Just this afternoon I threw three of my basses on the workbench for fresh strings and setups. One of them surprised me with a cracked nut, making the job a little bigger than expected, but all three are now happy and playing like champs. I tend to let strings get pretty dead so my basses usually end up going longer than they should between setups. I have a couple more slated for tomorrow if I have time.
