Mickyk
Like no doubt many Bass Players before me have labelled this tune as one of the greatest Bass lines ever written, I myself have tried nail this tune down for yonks, but never quite got the sound.? So a quickie for you, I know that a lot of what Freddie's sound was about was his fingers, but I was just thinking what strings he may have been using.
Reggaebass
Probably one of my favourite funky Basslines and a great song, I attempt to play it but that’s about it 😁, I did read that he played a 72 precision with rounds , could the red silks be labella ?
Guest
Or maybe Rotosounds? I saw “ready” on tour with Steely Dan a few years ago. What an absolute monster. Incredible groove. One of those players where you can’t help but tap your foot.
chris_b
Freddie Washington is fabulous, but that drummer gets me every time. What a fantastic groove!!! Freddie's bass isn't standard, I know the bridge was changed to a Badass and the pickups are non standard, maybe Barts. Misdee
I seem to remember reading in a feature in Bass Player magazine many moons ago that the original track was recorded with Rotosound Swing Bass on his P Bass. However, the strings in this YT clip are most likely Ken Smith Burners, Freddie's string of choice in more recent times. soulstar89
These are definitely rotosound swingbass 66 strings. I have them on my p bass. Also what is interesting is he has Bartolini pick ups on the bass. paul Jackson used “HI-A” pickups which was the first version on bartonlini’s. They just changed the name
ahpook
What a lovely vignette that video is. Drummer and bassist, just doing that thing.
