This is my 100% Original 1962 transition Factory white 3 pot slab board jazz bass.

Its a very rare beast indeed because it was one of the first custom colour 3 pot jazz bases to be made  in April 62 from stack pot stock. There are far fewer of these than any stackpot you could find. In so far as I know I'm the second owner.

 

It's also 100% complete including the original mutes, chrome covers, and original brown hard shell case. The case has one broken latch, and has had two additional latches installed at one time, although one of the additional latches was removed. This authentic '62 Jazz Bass looks AMAZING with the consistent play wear of only one player since it was purchased new. There are nicks + dings, finish checking, and other cosmetic wear including finish worn from the back of the neck giving it a nice smooth feel. The bass itself is structurally sound with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. All electronics work and sound great as all solder joints remain original and untampered with. The pickguard is intact and appears to have never been removed. The weight is 9 lbs 7.4

 

If I had to characterise this bass I would use the term funk-monster. It plays effortlessly and super fast. The tone is thick and full of rich harmonics.

 

Its been valued at £25k by ATB but I'm open to sensible offers. If it doesn't sell here - that's where it will be going for sale.

 

I purchased it some years ago from Olivia's Vintage in the US. The original ad is still available and has lots of pictures.

I’m going to say this out loud because if I’ve thought it, then undoubtedly someone else has….

 

I’m sure you’re a fine upstanding fellow of the bass playing community, but you might want to think about putting some of your own recently taken photos up rather than using the ones from when you bought it. What I’m saying is that I could have created that advert and for the money you’re asking, it’s probably the least you could do. No offence intended old chap. Just a thought.

Well you should know I'm real - I bought your Fodera 🙂 But yes I will post some more.

Damn fine looking bass but wow I could buy a 2 bedroom terraced house for less up north!! 
I know this is the price they fetch now it’s just crazy though.

It’s very seldom you see a genuine non-sunburst slab 62 for sale. Last one I am aware of was the fiesta red one ATB sold quickly a few years ago asking £30k. 
Fair value for such a rarefied bass, if rules permit me to comment, and I have no doubt ATB will find a buyer if nobody here has sufficiently deep pockets/a sufficiently understanding wife.

Incredible ! If I would not already own a wonderful Fiesta slab this would be mine in a heartbeat ! These custom colours use to show up only in vintage shops these days, if at all. And then with a price tag reflecting their margin and expertise. This is an opportunity to get a wonderful, super rare and nearly complete (!) collector's package (case, covers, mutes !), well documented by the trustful seller and the specialists at Olivis's. As far as I can see, everything is absolutely legit. It's a lot of money, but I cannot believe that the value will decrease.

I'm a big believer that these wonderful, vintage basses were made to be played. But what's the point of putting them under the bed or on a stand and staring at them.

Fair enough, it costs an arm and a leg but you can insure them for damage or theft. I have a collector grade 71 fender Jazz (bought from Si off here) that I regularly gig in pubs in and around Sheffield and I have absolutely no qualms about doing it. It sounds absolutely epic too and it's a joy to know I'm playing a beautiful piece of Fender history.

If you can afford it, you can decide what to do with it.
