Rich Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 "ABBA have settled their lawsuit against the UK tribute act ABBA MANIA, who they’d initially targeted last month for trademark infringement. In a suit filed on December 3, the Swedish icons described the cover band’s behaviour as “parasitic and bad-faith”, claiming that ABBA MANIA were intentionally misleading fans into believing they’re endorsed by the real group. It was said in the lawsuit that ABBA gave ABBA MANIA an opportunity to change their name, but ABBA MANIA refused." Quote
yorks5stringer Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Reminds me of when I was asked to join an Abba tribute. I was concerned about how their name might invoke legal difficulties but I was told "It's all right, were just going to use ABBA backwards'..... 10 Quote

bassintheface Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 I recall playing a gig about 20 years ago with a band called MetABBAlism - they covered ABBA songs in a heavy metal style........ 1 Quote

I suspect this is because Mamma Mia the West End show was part written by Benny and Bjorn, and ABBA Mania seem to be promoting themselves as the original and premier West End ABBA production. borntohang Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 My mate used to DJ a club night called Black SABBAth which had the obvious gimmick. Can't say it's something I'd want to visit often myself, but always seemed to go down well. Quote

A friend of mine is the main songwriter/vocalist/lead guitarist in a band that use the phrase " Putting ABBA back into Sabbath" in their marketing for gigs. They do indeed have heavy riffs and harmony vocals in their repertoire... 1 Quote
bassbloke Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Seeing as we've strayed into Black Sabbath influenced acts, it's only right I include the mighty Brown Sabbath 1 Quote
Doctor J Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 (edited) Have you heard Black Shabbath? They're a cross between Sabbath and Mr. Loverman himself, Shabba Ranks. It really doesn't work. I'll see if I can find a link. Shabba! Edited January 26, 2022 by Doctor J Quote
