"ABBA have settled their lawsuit against the UK tribute act ABBA MANIA, who they’d initially targeted last month for trademark infringement. In a suit filed on December 3, the Swedish icons described the cover band’s behaviour as “parasitic and bad-faith”, claiming that ABBA MANIA were intentionally misleading fans into believing they’re endorsed by the real group. It was said in the lawsuit that ABBA gave ABBA MANIA an opportunity to change their name, but ABBA MANIA refused."

Reminds me of when I was asked to join an Abba tribute. I was concerned about how their name might invoke legal difficulties but I was told "It's all right, were just going to use ABBA backwards'.....

Sabbath.

A Black Sabbath/Abba crossover. Versatility, that's the name of the game.

That's got legs, I'd say.

I suspect this is because Mamma Mia the West End show was part written by Benny and Bjorn, and ABBA Mania seem to be promoting themselves as the original and premier West End ABBA production.

A bit like Elvana, a Nirvana tribute act fronted by an Elvis impersonator.  They're actually quite good.

I've seen them. Extremely entertaining. It shouldn't work but it does.

A friend of mine is the main songwriter/vocalist/lead guitarist in a band that use the phrase " Putting ABBA back into Sabbath" in their marketing for gigs.

They do indeed have heavy riffs and harmony vocals in their repertoire...

Have you heard Black Shabbath? They're a cross between Sabbath and Mr. Loverman himself, Shabba Ranks. It really doesn't work. I'll see if I can find a link.

Shabba!
