thodrik
I feel that EBS heads like the v.1 Fafner share some similarities to the ABM heads in terms the basic features (comp, valve drive, mid scoop pre shape) but with a lot more treble and a little bit less sub bass on tap. Maybe the Ampeg SVT Pro series in terms of that slightly woolly but warm valve sound too. I don’t have any experience with the class D Ashdown heads.
Lozz196
Yep, Ampeg pretty similar tho I find that Ashdown have more clarity when the top end is pushed, seem a bit smoother to me, with Ashdown maybe being more low-mid biased with Ampeg more towards middle-mids if that makes any sense.

BassAdder60
Well I’ve had the PF800 and they can sound similar to Ashdown To be fair I think most warm sounding amps with good EQ adjustments can sound like each other perhaps with the acceptance of the grind / drive Even my Orange Little Bass Thing can be made to sound the same

BassAdder60
I really liked the PF800 head. Tried the PF500 and it felt a little underpowered I was looking to buy one again but they are hard to find in stock PMT showed one but they couldn’t find it !! BassmanPaul
In my mind if you like how Ashdown amplifiers sound just buy one. All else is a compromise.

Lozz196
I`ve been on a quest to get the right preamp/DI pedal recently, and have found that I can coax very similar tones to my Ashdown from the Aguilar Tonehammer. So the Tonehammer amps might be worth a look.
40hz
Late to the party here, but IME, Ampeg are the closest to the Ashdown sound. Tonal bedfellows for sure.
