SozG Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Hi, hoping someone can help please? My son has kindly been offered a guitar and we've been trying to find out more information about it. We've identified it as a Taiwan March 12th 1986 unit 141 but we are confused because of the 3+1 which we understand was a EBMM not a Yamaha? It has a lovely tone and son is very keen. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance Quote
Reggaebass Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Hi Soz welcome 👍 you could post your question here, more Yamaha aficionados will probably see it 🙂 Quote
pineweasel Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 (edited) Looks like a 1996 BBN4. You can see it in this catalogue on page 10 https://www.vintagejapanguitars.com.br/en/yamaha-1996-electric-guitars-and-basses-catalogue/ Edited January 28, 2022 by pineweasel Quote
Maude Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I think the early BBN4 had the 3+1 headstock, the then mk2 and 3 went with a 2+2. It's definitely the correct neck/headstock. It's a great bass. There's a lot of love for all the Yamaha BB range. 🙂👍 Quote
Romeo2 Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 (edited) I have one exactly like this one, absolutely love it, your son should consider himself lucky - awesome bass for not much money. Set of fresh strings, intonate it properly and you have an insanely good 24 fret jazz bass. I posted mine here: Edited January 29, 2022 by Romeo2 1 Quote

SozG Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 Thankyou so much to everyone for sharing your expertise. It's interesting to find out the history. We thought is was a 1986 maple body....! Fortunately my son has an appreciation of things with a story and as it's his first bass at 16, he will treasure it. If anyone has additional information it will greatly received! Quote
