Supernaut
I think I know the answer but wanted to check... My nut is cut for 45-105 gauge strings. Would changing gauge to 40-100 mean I would have to recut the nut? Thanks.
Reggaebass
I’ve switched from both on my jazzes with no problem

I reckon that going lighter the difference in possible movement is minimal. Going heavier might be an issue if the string becomes too tight in the slot and doesn't sit correctly. Would be interesting to hear the views of the more expert here.
EssentialTension
The only time I have needed to 're-nut' is when I tuned a bass BEAD with a 125 B string.

Going to thicker strings can be an issue if the nut slots aren't wide enough, but going narrower, within the realms of 'normal' gauges, is very unlikely to give an issue.
