Soldering a stereo Jack plug for mono

I have some stereo Neutrik jack plugs from the days I used to run balanced lines out of my Mackie desk on jack sockets.

 

I no longer need these. Can I reuse the plugs and ignore one of the tags so that I can wire ordinary instrument leads in mono?

Yeppers.

Wire the signal to the tip, and the ground to the sleeve, you can ignore the ring.

Thanks. I guessed as much, but my guessing has historically been flaky

It's a good idea to wire the ground to the sleeve AND the ring.

This way it will power on pedals and active basses etc.
