Maude Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 If you've seen my posts on here you may know I'm a bit wierd, in that I like a Kay bass, and I've spent far too much time restoring a couple. But, £295 for a plywood Kay. 😂😂😂 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kay-K-1B-bass-/165316929580?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Quote

Max Normal Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 I remember when all my school friends had a rickety Kay, Eko or Satellite guitar or bass chucked in the corner of the room, probably bought from a catalogue by their parents. Never stayed in tune, had a massive action and sounded awful even when new, but were OK for thrashing some Stiff Little Fingers or Sex Pistols out on (usually through a nasty JHS or HH amp). Dreadful things. When the first Japanese Squiers and Tokais came along it was a game changer for us kids then, as they were actually affordable playable instruments in the days when owning a real Fender or Gibson was a pipe dream for most people! I wouldn't pay £30 for a Kay, let alone £300, but I guess they have some interesting zeitgeist. Quote
BigRedX Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 It would have been less than a tenth of that price new back in the 70s and even then you were being robbed. Quote
Woodinblack Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 wow - they forgot the dot between the 2 and the 95! Quote
