I have Elixir nickels on my Sire V7, they've been on there for over 2 years now and whilst admittedly there haven't been all that many gigs in that time, they are still almost as bright as when I put them on. I've got Elixir steels on the ska bass and they've lost none of their zing either, despite the bashing they get. LeftyJ Posted February 24, 2022 Share Posted February 24, 2022 (edited) I have used them on all my basses except my Status headless basses (I use Status Hotwire double ball strings on those) for the last 15 years and love them. They feel really slick and smooth, and retain their brightness and clarity for a really long time. They don't sound overly bright when new. I love them. Only comparison I've had in the meantime were D'Addario nickels (on my Carvin LB75 - sounds fine, but the low B died real quickly -within three weeks of non-frequent use- and the rest followed suit after two months). Depending on how much use my basses get, my Elixirs last between one and two years. When I regularly gigged, and rehearsed weekly, they would last about 6 months before I found them lacking clarity and attack. I think they’re great, a better balance in sound than 45-105s imo. 45-100 my preferred gauge, if not 50-105, sadly neither seem to be around at present. NancyJohnson Posted March 2, 2022 Share Posted March 2, 2022 I've been using Elixirs pretty much exclusively for maybe 8-10 years. Expensive, yes. Longlasting, yes. Great? Yes. The only strings that have made me question my preferred string choice is the MarkBass LongEvo sets. They're finally available for £34/£39 (4/5) at Bass Direct. Lovely strings.
