Marvin Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 I'm contemplating replacing the preamp in my V7. Ideally it'd be something relatively staight forward to fit, maybe a John East but I'm not sure which one. Any pointers, advice etc gratefully received Quote

Marvin Posted February 28, 2022 Author Posted February 28, 2022 The Sire preamp has a 'baked in' sound, I'd like something that's maybe a bit flatter or neutral. Quote

gjones Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 (edited) There's two types of John east Jazz bass pre amps, one of them has a flat response when all controls are at zero. You can also order it with fender style knobs, which look great. Edit: and they've come down in price by about £20 since I bought mine a few years ago! Edited March 1, 2022 by gjones 1 Quote
Sibob Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 For short period I had a Sire V3 2nd Gen 5er that I ripped the preamp out of and just ran fully passive. Sounded fantastic. Personally I think the pickups in those basses are underrated, or rather, overshadowed by the preamp. Si 1 Quote
lonestar Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 (edited) How about Sadowsky ? Sorry, he is a bit annoying Edited March 1, 2022 by lonestar 1 Quote
BassBunny Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 I'm a big Glockenklang fan and they are totally transparent when set flat. If you set them flat and switch between active and passive, there is no difference at all. 2 Quote
