donslow Posted March 17, 2022 Author Share Posted March 17, 2022 Close to what I mean yes what I’m looking to do is screw the iec socket (as pictured in my original post) to my board and connect that to an extension lead that will be secured underneath the board. In theory, I’d like a pedalboard that can be powered by plugging in a regular kettle lead like this mostly inspired by something like this (as circled) main concerns are fusing really as the socket I’m after (as pictured in original post) doesn’t appear to have any type of electrical protection, I’m not sure if something like that can be wired onto maybe an already fused extension outlet Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If your socket has blade connections on the rear like this: You could use spade connectors, they are rated at 15 amps, pretty sure that's how my Vox is wired up. BigRedX Posted March 17, 2022 Share Posted March 17, 2022 Regarding protection form live mains connections, you used to be able to get a heavy-duty rubber shroud that fitted over the contact side of the C13 chassis socket completely covering all the wires. However with the up-rated electrical safety regulations this may no-longer be applicable. If you want to use a chassis socket as shown in the the second photo of the OP's second post, you will need to make sure that the bottom of the pedal-board is closed, so there is no easy access to the socket, and then use the appropriately rated heat-shrink insulation over each of the 3 contacts. It might be easier and safer to replace the standard mains plug of the extension with an in-line C13 male plug, to which you can connect your equipment mains lead. You could feed the cable through the pedalboard case (with a suitable strain-relief grommet) before fitting the new in-line socket. IMO you don't need any additional fused protection. Now I have a much smaller board I don’t have the room to do that so looking at finding another solution but this worked well for a few years - I had a Diago supply and also a Shure one for the wireless hence the two gang socket. Used one of these, with a fuse and switch, and joined them to the extention board with an inline connector. All screws, no soldering or bare wires and all available from Amazon. Only tricky part is makeing the hole to take the socket, and fitting it all in. Make sure everyrhing is held down though, nice strong velcro.
