 are these for 5 string basses and am i right thinking they are single and dual coil?

 what sort of preamp could i use with these ?

Hi Ziggy,

You’re right, these pickups are made for 5 string basses and they are dual + single coil.

I’m not very skilled in electronics, but I think you can pair them with any preamp you want. Of course, for an easy install (solderless) you can choose EMG preamps.

Anyway, there are many pdf files on EMG’s website and many official installing tutorials on youtube.

EMG Preamps are a very, very good option for these pickups. 
 

And not too expensive. 👍
