There’s no market for a gig bag built like a proper rucksack surely? Nobody is going to do the Pennine Way with their Precision. I’m happy to walk a couple of miles with my Mono; any further and I will be taking public transport or driving.

Probably true. Though people have been known to wish that  I was somewhere on the Pennine Way rather than on stage with them...  😥

I've a Gator thing that in return for 40 quid is incredibly uncomfortable after 5 minutes and crippling after 15. The shoulder straps aren't shaped to fit at all, just two strips, stitched on so far up the bass that instead of carrying it on your back, you're bouncing it on your posterior as you stagger along.

I've just been browsing through what else gear4music have. I've reached £180 and still no signs of anything that looks like its been designed with reference to carrying a bass guitar further than 20 yards.

If such a thing existed as a bass bag that fits like every single rucksack made in living history, with the weight where it should be, I would be prepared to be very thoroughly ripped off.

Look at the Fusion range. Very decent rucksack design straps and ergonomics. I have an F1 which they don't make anymore, but the Urban seems to be the replacement. They're the most comfortable ones I've found, in my opinion much more than Mono in particular. Very good protection too.

edit: and yes, at least my F1 has a nice and thick belt strap so that it's nicely fit on the waist as well as shoulders. The Urban seems to have a smaller waist strap but it looks like it'll work. It's a pity they don't make the F1 anymore.

Excuse the late reply, only seeing this now. There was indeed a case once upon a time that exactly fits your bill, made by Summit. Had a detachable bag on the front for leads, etc. Bottom of the case sits just above your tailbone. Has a proper rucksack belt and it genuinely feels like you’re carrying nothing at all. Like others have said though, the downfall is that doorways are your enemy. Having said that I used mine in many’s an airport and tube station, you get used to it quickly.

Think I bought mine around 2000-ish, and stopped seeing ads in BassPlayer magazine within a few years. Case is still going strong, with my eldest kid taking it to school every week.

** I should add, I’m 5’9”, and clipped plenty of doorways so I can see how demand for these might not have met manufacturers expectations.**

My gator bag is pretty comfortable, especially since I added a sternum strap. I’m 6’4 though, and can’t go through doors with it on

I think this has been mentioned on here before - the Gator gigbags are fine if you're tall. I'm 6'6" and have been walked from the next town over with a ProGo deluxe containing an 11.6lb bass and all my other gig crap, probably half an hour or something. I can get through doors but it involves dipping my knees and leaning forward a bit!

I love my TGI Extreme gig bags.

£50, proper straps, really good padding. I've owned mono cases and these are almost as good at about 1/5th of the price.

I regularly walk a couple of miles when using mine.

I'm looking something to hold my Fender Jazz while riding bicycle, so need to have good quality rucksack style straps without being too bulky.

Was looking at the Fender FB620 but could do with more pocket space for music sheets etc. Ideally don't want to go over £100.

Might stretch to something like the Gator G-PG Deluxe Bass, looks like Bass Direct have quite a few to choose from.

I'll take a photo of the straps when I get home. Remind me if i dont post!

The TGI has a nice big front pocket which would fit sheet music well.

Thanks, currently TGI Extreme and Fender look like best options for around £50. Mono, Gator etc look good but i'd rather not spend £150.

Im very very impressed with the thomann bags.

I have two, the elite and deluxe and rate them both.

Good backoack type straps that zip in if youre not using them

I rarely use the back straps and look for a bag that can either pack the straps away or remove them altogether.
